From Billboard.com:
With his knee nearly healed from a July stage injury, Drake says he’s ready to get back to work in earnest on his debut album, still tentatively titled “Thank Me Later” and due out in February.
“I’m able to walk around, so I’m working very hard on the album,” the singer-rapper-actor tells Billboard.com, adding that his rehab period impaired his writing as well as his mobility. “I’ve been out of the scene for so long because I’ve been off my leg,” explains Drake, who’s planning to head out to Los Angeles on Oct. 11 for more writing and recording. “Sitting at home in your apartment and having a doctor come over every day and eating healthy and going to the gym — there’s not much of a rap album to be made off that. I have to get my inspiration and start seeing things and going to dinners and meeting people again and just finding stories to tell for this album. I’m trying to make something timeless.”
Drake — who’s EP, “So Far Gone,” debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 in September -is planning to release the album’s first “story,” the single “Shut it Down,” in the near future, though it might not come out until January.
Drake describes the track which, as first revelead on Billboard.com last month, features The-Dream, as “an R&B song…It’s sexy. It’s slow, but there’s an energy to it. I rap on it. Me and Dream both sing on it. It’s cool.” It also has a “message that’s never really been explored by male singers,” he says. “This song is sort of like an anthem for women, like pre-the club. It’s like an anthem for you to be at your house with your girlfriends getting ready, what you listen to before you get there. It’s a song for the non-famous woman to make her feel special and just to let you know that even though I’m up here and have the option to mingle wtih these ‘upper-echelon’ women, if you will, that sometimes I’d rather be with the girl from back home or a student or a girl that works at Wal-Mart. They don’t have to be a star or rich or anything like that; that’s kind of the gist of the song. It’s an empowering song for all women.”
As he prepares to get back to the album, Drake says Jay-Z, Kanye West and his Young Money label chief Lil Wayne are still slated to be on it, and he promises “a couple of guest that may be very much surprises for a hip-hop album. I just want to give people a musical experience. I like to open up the minds of the fans in my genre.”
But even as the highly anticipated album looms, Drake is also plotting his next acting move. “I’m working on that right now,” the “Degrassi: The Next Generation” star confirms. “One of my best friends in this industry is Jamie Foxx…so hopefully we’ll get to do a movie together. And I’m a big Judd Apatow, comedic timing fan. I love all those movies that they do. So, yeah, I really want to get back into acting. It’s definitely something I’m interested in and always will be.”
From MTV News:
“ATLANTA — At the Atlanta Civic Center, Young Jeezy — who often has high-profile guests to join him onstage — pulled off a huge move during the BET Hip-Hop Awards, kicking off the show by bringing out surprise guest Jay-Z. Hov and Young opened the show with “As Real As It Gets,” with the two hip-hop heavyweights going back and forth on verses. With the audience on their feet by song’s end, Jeezy said, “Welcome to Atlanta.”
Jay later took home the MVP of the Year award, beating out such popular peers as Lil Wayne and Drake. Hov dedicated his win to Mr. Magic, Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube. “Brooklyn, we did it again,” he said at the conclusion of his brief speech.
The BET Awards air Tuesday October 27th @ 8pm on BET.
Press Release:
“With the pending release of his Brand New FEATURING…NO FEATURES E.P. and the phenomenal World Wide response to recent videos, songs and live shows, THEO3 is embarking on a One of a Kind “KEYS TO THE CITY” Canadian tour in Oct./Nov 2009.
THEO3’s entire catalogue (Screwface Capital Ep, Time EP, I’m Goin’ IN cd and the NEW FEATURING…NO FEATURES” ep) will be available as a $5 Download (each) for people bringing their USB KEYS to the venue. CD’s and T Shirts will also be available. More dates TBD in Vancouver, Ottawa and Toronto. Stay Tuned.
THEO3 is one of Toronto’s most highly respected and frequently collaborative artists. There’s nothing better than pairing with an emcee who brings their unique vibe and talent to a track, whether it be Mayhem or Grimace Love, Shad K or Drake, Empire or Tona, Adversaree or Ski. These various collaborations have brought together vastly different styles and sounds on many occasions. These songs ultimately worked because each person had a one of a kind vibe and unmistakable presence as an emcee. With that in mind, THEO3 continues his own personal evolution on FEATURING…NO FEATURES.
Full schedule after the jump!

Artists don’t sleep! Getting nominated for a Juno can lead to a lot of national exposure if you play your cards right and maximize every opportunity! Plus, the earlier you submit the cheaper it is! 2010 Junos are in St. John’s.

Caught this on 2DBz! I remember meeting her a few years back at FLOW. This girl has been GRINDING down in NY for a while now so it’s great to see a project like this jumping off for her! If I’m not mistaken, she’s already done some behind the scenes work with the likes of Puffy and Ryan Leslie, was on a Superbowl commercial, released a single with Jadakiss last year and now the N.E.R.D. thing! Here’s more info:
“Musically, we’re just somewhere else [with her],” Pharrell told MTV News. “The music is now very 3-D. It’s something you have to hear. But you’ll see. We’re definitely somewhere else. I want to leave that impact moment for when you purchase your download and you purchase your CD. The music is very three-dimensional. We’re just really excited. We feel like N.E.R.D. has always been the punks of hip-hop and the outcasts of alternative music — just a little different. But this time, we’re taking no prisoners.”
The Neptunes artist explained Rhea might be petite, at just 5-foot-4, but her booming voice and her classical background blend in with the genre-bending trio of N.E.R.D., also including Chad Williams and Shae
“Now you have this little Tinkerbell that’s just stepped in and has been amazing,” he said. “It’s made it a fun process. We can go in so many more directions, because we have the vocal support.”
Congrats going out to D-Sisive! Video above if you missed it the first time and here’s the official info:
SOCAN (The Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada) is pleased to announce D-Sisive and Robert Baker as winners of the fourth annual ECHO Songwriting Prize for the song “Nobody with a Notepad”.
Over the summer, an independent panel of 10 music community tastemakers selected the five songs they felt best showed the variety and creativity of independent, up-and-coming Canadian songwriters. Thousands of music lovers voted between September 1 and September 29 and, in the face of some stiff competition, “Nobody with a Notepad” emerged as the winning song!

“”Me and Fif did a couple of records, couple of months ago in Vegas, one song for my record and another for his,” Em revealed in an interview. “We just wanted to like, I just had an idea to like ‘Yo, why don’t we do something we ain’t done yet.’ And kinda go back and forth, we’ve kinda done it on other records but not to the extent of what we’re doing on this one…The way that it’s going now, K’Naan has two [produced] tracks on the record and Just Blaze has four, possibly five…I definitely feel like I’m in a little different space right now. I don’t know, with the last record, it felt like a lot of it had to do with me being sober…With Relapse 1 — a lot of that album, I wanted to rap at fire and do punchlines.” (Shade 45) “
Obviously these types of things are tentative; who knows what’ll happen by the time Relapse 2 drops but it’s coming straight from the mouth of the man. Either way tip your fedora to The Dustyfoot Philosopher who’s had a HUGE year!
Lastly, thanks for continuing to support CKLN 88.1FM during its absence from the airwaves. Tonight, we’re going until 2AM and plan to to deliver a show with straight music. Playlists and interviews will resume next week… in the meantime, it’s a celebration!!
Welcome Back Ladies! (cue the John Sebastian or Mase joint, lol!)
