Mike Tompkins has been killing it lately! He’s originally from London, Ontario, but has been living in Toronto for some time now. He’s a 1-man-band, recreating songs entirely with his mouth. He not only beatboxes, but sings and creates unique sounds while covering popular songs like Rihanna’s “Only Girl” featuring our homie Shad!
Check out the video above, shot entirely in Toronto, with glimpses of the TTC, Yonge & Dundas Square and City Hall.

Dope. From the crew with one of the illest logos in hip-hop. Get caught up with them here: http://crownathornz.ca!
In the Lab with Crown A’ Thornz off an Amun Rah instrumental and the squad starts an Impromptu freestyle which becomes the vibe to a song. J Wyze and Kolor Brown go in on it and Eklipz captures the magic. Just a small sample of a great day of practicing for an upcoming show and creating music.
Musically speaking this ain’t really my thing but I gotta show love to C4 who is making a name for himself as a producer who takes the extra time to make sure his sh*t is TIGHT. Case in point…this video took a year to make but the results are pretty sick! That last D-Sisive joint is durty too (shouts to Marc-Andre!).
I just released a project called Dirty Deeds ” Stupid People” with a video that I worked on in France with an animation / video production company called Flying V and Wizz Productions. The video has been getting a lot of playing in Europe in the last week, hitting 50K + views and blog love worldwide. The music is a blend of a bunch of styles and the whole goal is to keep shit creative. I produced, wrote the lyrics and performed the male parts in this track. – C4

Thing about Belly is that because of his Palestinian roots he can actually pull off joints like this without it seeming/sounding forced. Nice produce from the Boi-1da also.
(Ty EDIT: This director is not our boy Footage …aka Rinku, Write Just Films; this is a completely different dude.. Salute!)
Last year Belly released his mixtape with DJ Smallz Back For the First Time, which built a huge buzz with songs like “Hot Girl” and “Make it Go“. Part of the tape was also a record titled “What a World” produced by Boi 1Da, which garnered some attention and posting online, but didn’t really create a massive buzz. Being that it was one of Belly’s favorite records, he decided to create the visuals for it and release it once again to the online audience. The video was directed by Footage and premiered on WSHH yesterday with rave reviews. The song will be also be featured in Belly’s upcoming mixtape titled Sleepless Nights. More info on that is to follow.
(Ty EDIT: Big shouts to Lola for coming thru with the dj packagery and clearing up the ‘Footage’ mystery, lol!)
Deejays you get the main, instrumental, 8 bar intro version and acapella. And just so you know, it’s only one verse so you’ll have to get creative, lol.

Kheaven drops a pretty valid critique on why hip-hop has struggled to expand creatively while maintaining its pop viability.
