Been seeing more and more producers adopting this approach to marketing themselves. Definitely a great way to get yourself seen and heard as long as the actual video has STRONG context relating back to its primary purpose as a visual beat sampler. That way someone that randomly stumbles upon the video on the net knows it’s not just some random visuals with music in the background.
88 Days Of Fortune keep building their movement with the release of Abstract Random & Ayo Leilani’s trailer visuals for “New World Order”, a song inspired by the events of this summer’s G-8 conference.

The LoveAffair
Sparks flare at end of summer urban concert
TORONTO – Just in time for Labour Day weekend, The Augusta House is being transformed from concert hall to sweet romantic getaway as The LoveAffair takes over. On Thursday, September 2nd, Torontonians’ four month flirt with the sunny season collides with sizzling r&b and hip hop music for an intense sensual experience sure to warm summer lovers’ hearts for one last formal date.
The concert features live performances by emcee duo Smash Brovaz, emcee Ron D, spoken word poet MissG, afro-soul singer KG, poet/emcee Made Wade, and hip hop band the Vibonics, all poised to heat up the stage amid intertwining sets by hip hop, soul, and r&b specialist DJ Soundbwoy. Fashion sponsor JCom will also be in the building selling f-r-e-s-h apparel.
Presented by Def Revolution Musik and Lovehard Blog, the online presence of The LoveAffair goes beyond a flyer façade and website design. In the two weeks leading up to the event, a different performing artist will be featured on the Lovehard blog site, lovehard.ca, giving fans and inquirers a taste beyond the music and into the individuals making The LoveAffair what it is – a personal, exciting, seductive experience with a human touch.

Via The Segment. This is almost a year old but I just caught it for the first time just now and thought it was a pretty dope PC-cam rendition of the classic Bobby Caldwell joint “Open Your Eyes” which was, of course, famously re-interpreted by Dilla/Common. Shouts to the sound effects at the end lol. Get the audio below also (as well as the full Live Sessions Volume II project) for free download.
If I’m not mistaken, Ebrahim is from Vancouver…??? His debut project was Juno nominated (circa 2007) and he’s been in the lab recently with Slakah which should result in some goodness.
Nice photo/video retrospective piece on the Ghanian-Canadian kid we now know as Spek Won.
Benjamin Nii Kpani Addy is the first of his family to have been born in Canada after his father immigrated to Toronto from Ghana in the 1970s. He grew up in the Ghanaian neighbourhood near Martin Grove Road and Eglinton Avenue, where he was surrounded by a supportive, tight-knit community and instilled with the morals and language of his family’s culture. But Benjamin rebelled against these traditional values as he entered his teens, like many who feel their parents cannot understand the challenges they face, having come from a different country and grown up in a different time. He says he absorbed gang mentality deeply, that he “went from a kid who was afraid of his own shadow to being used to extreme violence.” Benjamin moved away from this as he got older, realizing it wasn’t going to lead anywhere worth going, and instead focused on his musical ambitions. Under the moniker “Spek Won”, Benjamin has used hip hop to find a middle ground between his Ghanaian roots and his Toronto upbringing.
