Ok, so real talk my first few impressions of this cat weren’t the best. First song I heard I thought he was biting Drake, then there was some rumour about him being Drake’s lil’ brother (or something? can’t remember details now) and I was like…lame. BUT…here on Cityonmyback.com we like to always see the glass half-full so to speak. That being said, this is a great look at a young artist taking the initiative to pack his bags, press up his CDs and try to make things happen in arguably the biggest hip-hop city right now, Atlanta. Empty shows, opening slots, freestyling on the street, handing out CDs, pitching songs to producers, college radio etc etc etc…all necessary building blocks for any successful career. So, Torey Lanez, for this I salute you and wish you all the best. Keep grindin’!

Shouts to the homie Spinz who produced this joint. Really solid pop song which is definitely doing big things right now. Still waiting on the footage of Spinz live at MuchMusic. I always love when producers get in front of the camera because they always say they hate being in the spotlight but secretly you know they love it (shouts to Boi-1da lol). So You Think You Can Dance finalist and judge, Blake McGrath, has danced with the biggest pop stars in the biz from Madonna to Janet Jackson to Britney Spears. But, now McGrath is stepping out from the chorus line and up to the mic.

Blake has released his first single, The Night (Only Place to Go). Not only do viewers get to enjoy Blake and his half-nekkid loveliness, but the video also features former SYTYCD Canada contestants Natalli Reznik and Nico Archambault (Season 1 winner)

The song is catchy, sexy, and of course has a good beat for dancing. McGrath has successfully proven himself to be a triple threat – dancer, choreographer and now singer.
