VIDEO: Shad Feature w/ The Ontario Newsroom

hyperadmin | Video | Thursday, March 31st, 2011

Nice likkle feature on this year’s Juno Rap Recording of the Year winner, Shad. I know I’ve posted a bunch of artists from other cities today but even though Shad is technically from London we have officially annointed him as a Toronto artist and there’s nothing he or anyone else can do about it. Sorry. Lol. Shouts to the Ontario Newsroom for putting this piece together. Shouts to the OMDC too. All you artists should know about them. Any grants for bloggers??? Hollaaaa!

We were lucky to catch Shad for this exclusive interview during 2011’s Juno Week celebrations, just before his epic win in the ‘Best Rap Album’ category. This world-renown, Kanye West-loved, Black Box Recording artist speaks about the importance of creating, sharing & enjoying local culture, his fascinating career & more. Ontario Media Development Corporation’s Chair, Kevin Shea, also speaks to the importance of Ontario artists sharing their gifts internationally & domestically.

About Times Neue Roman:

Times Neue Roman rock with a general tone and attitude of teenage immortality. Comprised of an award winning poet, Arowbe (Robert Bolton) and composer, Alexander The, TNR’s ‘one of one’ sound has been called “nintendo-punk-rap,” and “post-rap” (although the band prefers “Rap Deco”) by media and supporters.

Since debuting at the Vancouver Art Gallery in 2008, Times Neue Roman have been rousing crowds at basement jams, rooftops, auto-garages, house parties, shitty pubs, glitzy clubs, numerous festivals and out the back of a U-HAUL truck. They flaunt a live show complete with wild theatrics, reckless moshing, tribal percussion, live visuals and all of the bangers their fans are used to getting loose to.

March 2011 – Times Neue Roman re-release their acclaimed album Talking Sporty as an iPhone app Talking Sporty features the singles “Best Est. 2019” (featured on MTV, video on Much Music, placed on an episode of CSI, and tracking on CBC Radio 3), “Roq Roq” (featured in EA Sports’ Fight Night Round 4 video game and 50,000+ views on Youtube) and “Hands, No Hands (new music video release).

New album for Fall 2011.

NEW VIDEO: Fame (Hustle Cartel) – World Is Mine

hyperadmin | Video | Thursday, March 31st, 2011

Dope joint from a new artist named Fame from Montreal. Caught this via the Hustle Cartel website where you can get more info on the crew as well as their latest mixtape, The Cartel Vol. 2.

Hailing from Montreal’s Little Burgundy, Fame grew up on the sounds of Bone Thugz-n-Harmony and Kriss Kross, later getting into the harder sounds of Jay-Z. His expressive and emotive style comes from his desire to rap about the world around him, and the people that are close to him. “I rap about life,” he says. “The things that happen to me, the things that happen to other people. I like to talk about stuff I can relate to.” Although already an accomplished artist who has toured across Canada, he is constantly seeking ways to push his music to another level. “I like to experiment. None of my records sound the same.” Having hooked up with Hustle Cartel off the buzz of his self-produced mix tape, Fame is on the verge of breaking out as Canada’s next huge name in rap. “On my next project, I’ve really found myself. When people ask who Fame is, that record will show them who I am.”
