Pinning his hopes on the notion that beats and rhymes enthusiasts actually do read from time-to-time, long time urban music scribe Dalton Higgins stretched his literary reach out into book form last Tuesday with the unveiling of Hip Hop World at Toronto’s Lula Lounge. Presenting his investigative report into the perceived current disconnect between the current incarnations of American hip hop and its idealized origins as the socially progressive voice of neglected youth, Higgins called on a handful of choice performers to help celebrate the book’s release.

Wow. What a great moment for the city. Kardi SMASHES the 13th Annual Toronto Urban Music Festival with the help of Jully Black, Saukrates, Glenn Lewis, Melanie Fiona, Solitair, DJ D.O.C. and Lindo P (clip above). The Lindo battle into BURNT (from Not 4 Sale) was probably the hypest part for me but the show was full of classic moments. Kardinal proves once again why he’s the best and reps the city like no one else!

He decided since all his life he’s been surrounded by the number 4, from Birth being born at 4:44am to having 4 brothers, high school nickname 004, being part of 4 different musical groups, so blah blah blah 444, he decided to drop his mix-tape September 4th, 4:44pm. “UpSideDownDay tapemix” is exactly what it sounds like, with production by Rich Kidd, The Carps, KJ, LordQuest and Shane Tone, the heavy drum, synth grabbing musical “tapemix” should be received well.
