The world is so weird and ironic. I posted a viral video from Ottawa/Pittsburgh’s Cashtro earlier, then I seen this one over at Praise & Warship (shouts to The Real Voyce).
This one dropped in January but I don’t really think release dates should ever take precedence over noteworthy, relatively unheard material (I know Rez feels me on that).
Matter-of-fact if we could just stop with this incessant need to correlate a song’s relevance with when it was initially released I think it would make everything so much better.
Bottom line is: If you’re just hearing it, it’s new; and if you’ve already heard it, don’t spoil the moment for everyone else in the room.
UMAC Announces New Board Members and Advisors Urban Music Association of Canada Welcomes New Faces for 2010

December 7th, 2009
Toronto – UMAC is pleased to announce that it has added two new faces to its list of Board Members. Derek Brin has accepted the position of Director of Artist Relations, while Melissa “DJ MelBoogie” Langley, has accepted the role of Director of Communications. Of the two new Board Members, UMAC President Will Strickland says: “Derek and Mel represent two of our best and brightest lights, shining prominently on Canadian urban music and this industry as a whole. UMAC is proud to have them on the squad and looks forward to growing and creating great things with them both!” Other recent changes in the Board include the departures of Katrina Lopes, former Vice President, and Miro Oballa, former Business Affairs Director. The two will remain active with the organization in advisory positions.
Cott damn this song still gives me goosebumps. For those that don’t know, K’naan gets a lot of press as a Somalian artist (which he is) but he also calls Toronto home. His music career basically launched from here a few years back with the help of one of Canada’s “urban music” pioneers Sol-Guy from Vancouver. Sol was instrumental in the early success of Rascalz, k-os, Kardi and more. Sol is also behind the MTV show 4Real and the legacy continues…
You wanna talk about a WORLD STAGE?
The official video of the “FIFA World Cup 2010” Anthem. In South Africa. By Somalian artist K’naan. Video by “Coca Cola”
Peter Jackson & Patrick Christopher have a brand new single coming out called Indian Girl produced by PC Beats. The Video was Directed by Chris Stacey who Directed Videos for Royce Da 5’9 , Cee Lo & More.
Any chance to resurrect this beat and I’m GAME. Seen on NR. Following in Styles P’s footsteps, Ransom also hops on the Toronto classic. Original version = Drake feat. Kardinal Offishall & Andreena Mill. Don’t know the original? Get it HERE.
“Rockin’ the skull full of waves, four frames with his chain, Jamaican accent, fresh out Toronto, he black skin.”
Sure, this is a stretch but to me it’s mainly an excuse to make a post about Damon Dash’s BlakRoc project which I think is sick. I’m just glad there’s one Toronto reference in there to make it post-worthy here. I guess Rae really did fall in love with the city when he visited this past summer – he’s already mentioning T.O. in his rhymes. Back to the album though…”Dollaz & Sense”, “Why Can’t I Forget Him”, “Hoochie Coo” and “What You Do To Me” are on repeat!
