This was posted on YouTube back in November but I just caught it on HHC and thought it was pretty dope. Again, a great example of what you can do these days with a camera, a couple lights, a little creativity and some technical savvy. Oh yea, you need music too. MTL what up…!
muGz records in studio his new single/freestyle “The Recap”. Presented by Black Rose. Official music video filmed and edited by Justin Agustin. Off the I Co-Sign Myself mixtape.
Famous hops on the #1 song in the city right now, “Do You Right” by Aion Clarke. Shouts to DJ Christopher Michaels who got the exclusive for a couple weeks and now here it is for download!
Speaking of trailers, here’s one promoting what seems like a doc on Drake…. And it’s free! (Christ, considering my last little diatribe, could this have come at a worse time, lol!)
Check www.mixtapeevolution.com for the download, altho last I checked the site was down for maintenance… Guess they got more traffic than they were ready for?
Another one from Drake; “Love & Gunz”; produced by Tha Bizness.
I’m definitely pro-snippet; it’s a highly underrated way to build a buzz around a new single and/or upcoming project without actually giving away the product; but it’s pointless if it’s only done to create a buzz around a future leak… which is basically implementing the right initiative, just with short-sighted execution and expectations.
Don’t get it twisted, you can’t stop people from getting it for free but I think if the music industry was a bit more critical about their internet best practices they’d realize it’s not that far-fetched to think if you leaked strictly snippets in tandem with a good viral campaign, you could create a strong favorable buzz around the product to get a better profit margin off the actual commercial release. I wouldn’t recommend it for unestablished artists but definitely known artists.
Sure once it’s officially out all bets are off but how that became a sensible reason to just give your product away is beyond me.
The film industry’s been using the same snippet principle with trailers. Granted the dynamic is more favorable for them to do so, but the point is it’s effective.
Via TRF! Love to see the success these guys are having! Here the trio sits down with HipHopOfficial to talk about how they got together, their new Live Re-Mixing 101 project (download below) and basically why they are the shit! Shouts to Melanie Fiona on the co-sign/intro!
Honestly, I’m just gonna be blunt here and say that these guys def aren’t impressing me but Bishop did his thing and the video looks clean. Shouts to Melyssa Ford who’s still getting multiple plugs lol. GoodFellaz are from MTL so if anything it’ll be good exposure for Bish in another market!
3/5! Not too shabby at all although I think the reviewer did go a little overboard on the Kanye comparison. Also funny to me that he mentions “Fresh Cut” as a stand out track but no mention of “How It’s Gotta Be” feat. Kim Davis…..? To each their own I guess…either way, good look for the kid!
With so much pressure these days on artists to hit it big with their first release (as a second one is no longer guaranteed), it is not surprising that young rappers and producers would look to proven styles and artists for inspiration. That is precisely what Famous and production duo Burd and Keyz do on the Canadian rapper’s new album Goddess Girl. Famous hails from Toronto, a place he calls “a city everybody underestimates.” That underdog status, and the “prove everyone wrong” mentality it breeds go a long way to explaining why much of this 31-minute album’s songs can be traced back to familiar and relatively recent sources. It appears as if Famous wants to be everything to everyone, and make recognizable sounds and tap into established fan bases – not a bad way to approach a career.
New joint from a new artist named Burna. His first single “The City” (which was produced by Rich Kidd) was a love-my-city-feel-good type joint that I think was slept on (get it below). Here’s his follow-up “Can’t Get My Money” from producer Jazzfeezy’s Jazzfeezy Presents Unveiling The Rapture compilation album which also features production from Boi-1 Da & T-Minus. Available on iTunes, Rhapsody and Amazon.
