Era chops it up with DJ Manifest about his writing technique, the industry, freestyle vs. writing, touring, his new mixtape Th1rt3en and more!
Toronto Morning Live is one of Toronto’s premiere R&B/Urban Soul wakeup shows and CHRY’s flagship morning show – airing every Monday morning from 7-10am.
Hosted by radio veteran DJ Manifest and co-hosted by mega-city internet personality Flo, Toronto Morning Live is distinctive in sound playing over 75% Canadian content representing artists from shore to shore and is home to the heralded MAPLMix – a 100% all-Canadian music montage segment that creatively mixes and highlights homegrown talent from across Canada.
On February 15, 2000, I released my debut album “The Book of Daniel” on One Rock Records – a label I co-founded with my crew, Monolith. As announced on the 10 year anniversary of this album’s release, I would be commemorating this landmark occasion with the release of a brand new mixtape.

The long wait is over for Captain Hooks fans as we just released his latest visual offering, “Good,Good” Music Video Preview.
This record is produced by T-Minus who is one of my favorite producers from Canada. Through this clip you can see the main theme setting is in space, with the futuristic look. Captain Hooks and his record label Ahoy! Entertainment are planning for a strong 2010 campaign, as they are planning for a country wide tour with an established mega-star from south of the border. At this time, I am not allowed to discuss the current details of this tour. Check out the mini preview of the video, “Good,Good” Below and stay tuned for the official release coming soon. This video was shot and produced by the good people of NME.

Circle Research get their electronic-funk on with “Out Of This World” from the album Gardiner Express (available for digital download April 20th).
Nik and Gil have been kickin’ it since the early ’90s when they were part of a b-boy crew back in high school. In 1994 they officially joined forces as Circle Research, and began deejaying parties around the city. Soon enough they were playing shows with legendary Toronto crews. Armed with an arsenal of music and some boisterous friends, Nik and Gil accepted an offer to enter the world of community radio. In 1998 the Circle Research Show hit the CKLN 88.1FM late-night airwaves and provided listeners with entertaining banter and choice selections. The show continues today in podcast form @ www.thecircleresearchshow.podomatic.com.
As well as producing beats for rappers, 2 full-length albums, and various singles, Circle Research have also been steady rocking remixes and are creating some of the freshest re-rubs for Toronto’s finest. Artists that received the CR treatment include the acclaimed MC Abdominal, the soulful Ivana Santilli, singer/songwriter Maylee Todd, nu-jazz singer Elizabeth Shepherd, indie darlings Apostle of Hustle, legendary MC/DJ Anonymous Twist, folk-soul-pop outfit SUNSHINE STATE, rock quintet The Framework and experimental turntable musician’s iNSiDEaMiND. – excerpt from official bio.
Arabesque returns after a long hiatus with a brand new joint called “Caravan of Love”. His new album Nuclear Ambition drops in June! To re-familiarize yourself with Big Besque peep his videos on his YouTube channel including “Stardust”, “Nature’s Phone” and “Anna Conda”. My favorite joint is still “Choked Up” though. Sick artwork from Besque as per usual.
Malvern reps US (Jesse & Probs) hook up with MegaMan again for “Lifestyle’s Clean”. Peep “Rain” below also if you’re just hearing about these guys for the first time (dope joint!).
Chris Stylez FINALLY returns with some new music. For those that have been following OTA Live from its inception we were playing this DIRTY R&B joint over 3 years ago when the show started called “High On Love”. As far as we know, that was Chris’ first real single (produced by 2Rude and featuring Quinn Maybach) but after that he kinda disappeared. Rumour had it that he was down in the states doing his thing for a bit but whatever the case it looks like he’s back to releasing joints. Here’s a new one called “Fade Away” and “High On Love” is here for download too as it’s a must have joint for any R&B head.
Here’s some new music from an artist I was recently put on to named Cook Thomas. “Get Yur Ass Up” is a new joint leading up to his new mixtape and to get familiar “’96 Chicago Bulls” is an older joint pre-Cityonmyback days.
’96 Chicago Bulls is a joint produced by a production team called The Produce Section. The Get Yur Ass Up freestyle is just a freestyle to get the people ready for the mixtape. This freestyle was also produced by The Produce Section. We have a lot more projects in store…this is just the beginning.
