Vancity’s SonReal returns with a trailer video for his upcoming Light Year Mixtape. Directed/filmed/edited by Dane Collison. Produced by Byron Wilson. Great to see a solid push coming out of my original hometown. Get familiar with dude. “What If” (below) is a solid (and slept-on) joint featuring Promise and produced by Rich Kidd and the video for “Who Am I” (also below) is a perfect introduction.

They call her the mama of 88 Days. My friends call her the next gen Jill Scott. We say “Ayo! Leilani, what you say g’yal?!”. Kenyan born Leilani got her extended name from hip hop notable KJ, also from the 88 Days of Fortune crew. This sweet voiced lady has a mighty presence on stage. She’s that calm and collect, tell it like it is type, singing straight from raw emotion. As a little one she was making up songs with family in Africa, then later migrated to Canada and started up the west-end Toronto version of the “Cousins Band”…
If you don’t know who I am – I’m Jonathon “Bizz” Brown; writer, entrepreneur & cultural commentator. I write The Fine Print column on this website, co-own the line of clothing reading “Hip Hop Ain’t Dead It Lives In The North” and am Central Region Editor for HipHopCanada.com. Last summer I took my t-shirts across Canada along with Peter Jackson on the Back On My BS Tour headlined by Busta Rhymes. It was an incredible experience which I blogged about on this very site. After the success of that tour, I was invited to join the Slaughterhouse tour this April.
Beginning tonight in Toronto at The Opera House, I’ll be embarking on a two week tour that will bring me as far east as Montreal and as far west as Whistler. Not only is this the longest tour I’ve been apart of, it also marks a moment in history as my company has joined forces with Concrete Guerilla Clothing to create a limited edition, 2010 collaborative t-shirt.
I plan to document the pieces of tour life most casual fans never get to hear about. So stay tuned to CityOnMyBack.com where I’ll show you how life is on the road.
The Queen returns with a new joint called “Head Knock”. If you missed our interview with Michie last year (amazing show where Michie really breaks down some serious Toronto hip-hop history) peep it here!

With the release date for T-West‘s – “Maybe It’s Okay” being exactly one week away, we’ve decided to release a short movie trailer for the fans! While we won’t give away what the video represents, here’s a hint – watch the “Coming Home” video right after it.
T-West – “Maybe It’s Okay” (Hosted By: DJ Gutta x Live The Dream) will be released on April 15th, 2010 at http://www.maybeitsokay.com – This website will give listeners the opportunity to listen to the entire CD before downloading, and donate to the CD as well. We are firm believers in people paying for what they think something is worth, and that’s how this CD will be treated. Whether you think it’s worth $0.01, $1.00, or $10.00, we want you to let us know!
Chedo of The Come Up Show chops it up with Grand Analog’s Odario Williams. They touch on the importance of hip-hop artists translating their music on the stage, his transition into the i-pod playlist era, the environmentalism that inspired the title of their latest album and more.
