The Archivist chops it up with 9th Wonder in Vancouver. We’ve seen it on Twitter and he’s praised Toronto on video before but here’s a more detailed explanation of why 9th calls Toronto the “hip-hop capital of the world”.
Ruff Ryders representative Drew James releases the video for “Return Of The Ryder”. The trailer came out over a year ago but here’s the finished full-length video.

Gotta give props where props are due. When we were trying to figure out a cohesive way to create an online extension of OTA Live, Nahright was definitely a huge influence as far as deciding to go straight blog style goes. Congrats to eskay and the whole NR fam on their 5th year anniversary and thanks to Toronto for being so dope that we have so much content to post everyday. Ok, enough sentimental bla bla bla…JD Era, Andreena Mill and A-Game live on OTA Live tonight. Chyea!
Unkle Morey drops a brand new video for “Lookin’ Like A Crook” featuring JB. Check Mayhem live this Sunday night at the Stylus Nominee Party at The MOD Club! Don’t have the MP3 yet but when we do, so will you.
Copped mine on Queen Street yesterday. If you’re in Toronto, find TRA on the streets or go check out Play De Record or Rockwell to get your copy. No free downloads here b*tches. Not yet anyways. For a taste of what’s on the tape, peep the links below.
This is his third full-length release (an amazing feate in these times) and maaan it is pretty sick!
Beginning to end – great songs with well-executed concepts, commentary and story lines over a perfect production sound scape from Rich Kidd, Ric Notes, Classified, Relic, TLO and Kondrat & La Manga; along with solid features from Ian Kamau, Justin Nozuka and Broken Social Scene’s Brendan Canning & Lisa Lobsinger (what a lineup!).
For any emcee looking for that ground-zero Canadian hip-hop market model that balances commercial viability with true b-boy artistry – this guy is your inspiration (shouts to G and the entire team!).
Bottom line: If you’ve been a fan from the very beginning (When This Is Over); got into him on the second album (The Old Prince); or’ve never (ever) taken in a Shad K album (or seen him live) – this is that moment where it simply won’t be possible to plead honest ignorance while keeping your credibility as a contemporary hip-hop fan intact.
