NEW VIDEO: Spooks – Lark Cuz I Go Hard

hyperadmin | Video | Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

Couple small delivery flubs in there but overall vibe this guy is coming with shows some good potential for sure. Scott Pilgrim in the background = dope too. This actually came out before the video I posted yesterday (below) so I’m kinda playing catch up with what Spooks has been up to over the past month or so, but whatever…it’s all new to me. Oh yea, and this is over that Asher Roth joint that was mad slept on…yay for Lark Voorhies.

VIDEO: Freedom Writers "Black & White" (EPK)

hyperadmin | Music,Video | Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

Get familiar son.

The Freedom Writers (Tona, Frankie Payne, Mathematik, Theology 3, Progress, Adam Bomb, and producer Big Sproxx), Toronto, Canada’s collective of Internationally buzzing and locally certified artists continue to bend the parameters of politics, punch lines and a strong penchant for free thought with each sizzling new release. Following up the devastating Adam Bomb WASTED TALENT video, a song receiving waves of ravenous support from industry tastemakers (Peace magazine, Real Frequency, City on my Back) fellow artists (Michie Mee, D Sisive) and dedicated fans alike.

Following the massive success of the Freedom Writers appearance at the recent Dead Prez concert in Toronto, FW producer and newly minted video director Big Sproxx began to accumulate footage from various interviews, shows and studio sessions. The result is a first hand glimpse into the motivations, origins and energy of one of the most talked about collectives in Canadian Hip Hop history. From appearances supporting the only all female Hip Hop radio show in Canada (Droppin’ Dimez), to live freestyle sessions at Saturday afternoon radio staple Mixtape Massacre, the Freedom Writers maintain a constant community presence building with likeminded grassroots artists and movements. The intense crowd reactions can be seen in all venues as the genuine power of 6 top Emcees forming a union of thought, action and execution is vividly shown throughout. This is a time in history not to be missed.

VIDEO: Ian Kamau – The Pessimist

hyperadmin | Video | Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

Dope. Kamau moves the crowd with his performance of “The Pessimist” at what I believe to be the first event in a series called “Why Am I So Poor” based around youth poverty.

Ian Kamau is an artist. He believes his ability to create is connected to his purpose. Raised in Toronto to filmmaker parents, he believes in community, and is a founding member of Nia, an afro-diasporic arts centre in Toronto.

On January 26, 2011 Ian performed “The Pessimist” for the launch of Camden File Project’s Poetry-Prose-Photography salon series, part of the “Why Am I So Poor” youth poverty project.

“Why Am I So Poor” Youth Poverty Series
In 2011, the Camden File Project is launching a new salon series with a focus on youth poverty in Toronto. The series will bring together Toronto’s most eminent young poets, filmmakers, photographers and writers to shed light on the rising social crises in urban communities across Toronto.

Camden File Project
The Camden File Project is a youth-led policy think tank. Camden File deploys culture via creative mediums of expression including film, photography and poetry to uncork socio-political discourse and influence public policy. CFP is part of Salon Camden Centre for Urban Dialogue (saloncamden.com), which promotes urban discourse via intimate gatherings and other expressive platforms on subjects spanning art, culture, socio-economic issues, geopolitics and philosophy.
