This actually came out before the video I posted yesterday (below) so I’m kinda playing catch up with what Spooks has been up to over the past month or so, but whatever…it’s all new to me. Following the massive success of the Freedom Writers appearance at the recent Dead Prez concert in Toronto, FW producer and newly minted video director Big Sproxx began to accumulate footage from various interviews, shows and studio sessions. The result is a first hand glimpse into the motivations, origins and energy of one of the most talked about collectives in Canadian Hip Hop history. Ian Kamau is an artist. He believes his ability to create is connected to his purpose. Raised in Toronto to filmmaker parents, he believes in community, and is a founding member of Nia, an afro-diasporic arts centre in Toronto.
