Stylus-2011-Front

I guess this is relatively late seeing as how the Stylus DJ Awards were a few weeks ago now…BUT…I just recently found out that their yearly compilation album was available for free download (as opposed to just physical copies distributed over the Stylus Spinfest weekend)…AND…even more recently I got the artwork.

And thus…I happily present to you this year’s Who’s Got Next compilation. Pretty solid comp featuring Famous, Shi Wisdom, SonReal, Reema, Rich Kidd, Smash Brovaz, Politic Live and a lot more. Full tracklist under the hood…

NEW MUSIC: DJ Jazzy Jeff & Ayah – Notorious

hyperadmin | Music | Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

Ayah

Teaser clip dropped the other day and now Ayah lets loose the first official joint with her new partner in crime, the legendary DJ Jazzy Jeff. Good look? Um, yea you could say that. Full project drops July 12th! Here’s more info on the release via DJBooth.net:

Introduced to our readers earlier this month via acclaimed single When It Comes, T-dot buzzmaker Ayah is quickly becoming Notorious for her strong vocal presence and vintage sound. “But Richard,” you protest, “you can’t be notorious for doing something good. That’s just being famous.” Well, imaginary reader, you’d traditionally be right—but, since the T-dot soul songstress’ latest selection (a Booth-exclusive world premiere!) finds her flipping the pejorative into a point of pride, I figured I’d follow suit. Anyways, this bombastic cut drips with classic hip-hop flavor, from the legendary DJ Jazzy Jeff‘s brass-sampled production to Ayah’s swagger-drenched lyrical approach: “…I grab the mic, and then I rip the mic and then I hand it back, and then I drop it like I didn’t mean to, psych.” Despite the playfully aggressive tone, the singer keeps it as smooth as ever on the vocal tip, and the final result is a joint that positively screams “crossover appeal.” Digging it? Then be sure to grab a copy of Ayah and Jeff’s Back for More LP when it drops July 12, and stay tuned to DJBoothTV for behind-the-scenes video of this record’s creation.

NEWS: JD Era Signs To Raekwon's ICEH2O Record Label

hyperadmin | News | Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

Man, Era‘s probably been itching to get this news officially out lol. Congrats to him and the whole squad. REALLY hoping Rae has that business savvy to get things done and give Era the push he needs/deserves. Will be dope to see what the first move is! Here’s more info via HHC:

We’ve been offering a variety of Raekwon based coverage recently as he travelled the country performing new material and bigging up “all this talent” we have up north. Just this past 420 (April 20th) in Vancouver, Raekwon lit one up with HipHopCanada West Coast Editor, Amalia Judith, and spoke in detail exclusively to HipHopCanada of plans to open a Canadian branch to his new label, ICEH20. Here’s what he told us back in April:

“I’m startin’ an ice-h20 Canada record company out here, so all this talent out here that’s sunken in this situation where they not able to carry it across seas, across the world, across to America, I’m here to give them the opportunity. Right now I think I’ve got enough business savvy friends that’s going to come and help me allow others to get into this business. There’s a lot of talent here. It’s been too many years that we’re not able to hear the music like how ya’ll hearing us constantly. I wanna be able to hear ya’ll constantly the same way, and see new artists come and get on.”

The very first artist signed to the new Canadian branch is reported to be JD Era who has quickly become one of the hottest artists coming out up north. We caught up with Era to get his take on the new situation: “I’m excited to be working with Raekwon and the ICEH20 family. We’re looking forward to doing some big things for hip-hop in this counry.”

Update: Raekwon confirmed the reports by retweeting this story link and also writing his own message: “IT’S official, Welcome to the ballclub @JDERA!!!! Newest member to #iceh20records. Rt this crack!”

hyperadmin | Video | Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

Director David F. Mewa gets ‘DVD extra features’ on us and drops the official director’s commentary for the new Tona joint, “We Do”. Nice Mewa.

The summer of 2011 is shaping up to be a great one. Having completed a slate of 4 new videos, your boy is poised to drop some of his most visual and conceptual work to date. I’m really excited to share this new video by TONA after premiering it in the 3rd annual ART OF MUSIC VIDEO exhibit last weekend. It is a sci-fi adventure inspired by the post-apocalyptic cult classic 12 Monkeys. I’ve also included a very unique look behind the scenes of this video by including a first of its kind YouTube director’s commentary clip… Enjoy! – David F. Mewa
