NEW MUSIC: Ayah – When It Comes To You

ayahwebnew

Finally a new Ayah joint! Definitely looking forward to her upcoming projects! Here’s all the info:

Ayah Tells It Like It Is On ‘When It Comes To You’

Ayah returns with a little something to get us through these last days of spring with the soulful jam “When It Comes To You.” Produced by Nick Brongers (Recovery, Thank Me Later), the song is ’70s retro but sounds totally modern with Ayah singing to a man who is driving her to drink. It’s so good to hear Ayah again and even better to hear that she will be releasing more tunes from her vault via her Bandcamp page.

And as for that album with DJ Jazzy Jeff,  Ayah assures  that This Way will be coming our way sooner than later, with a mixtape, entitled Back For More, on the way this summer! Stay tuned!

Freedom Writers – ‘The Revolution will not be Televised’

On Wednesday May 27th 2011 the world lost one of the most critical, significant voices in recent history. Gill Scott Heron was not only a poet, musician and cultural pioneer, but he was an artistic freedom fighter and aspiring revolutionary. His words were the soundtrack of the push for transformative change and African liberation. The sound of his voice will forever stir up imagery within us of the active resistance and self- determination synonymous with the Liberation movement of the 60’s and 70’s.

In this Gil Scott Heron tribute, appropriately titled ‘The Revolution will not be Televised’, Freedom Writers Frankie Payne and Tona offer lyrical wisdom, flow and timing placed in between excerpts from Gil Scott Heron’s classic original version. The track is produced and Big Sproxx who also directed the video.

Our hearts and minds go out to the family and friends of our fallen hero, as we wish them peace while they mourn his passing. His epic impact on life and culture will not be forgotten.

INITIATIVE: The Forgiveness Project w/ keynote speaker Wayne Barrow (June 5th @ Toronto City Hall)

hyperadmin | Community,Initiatives,Interviews | Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

F-You_Ad_05

I took a HEAVY scolding from Ms. Muldoon for not posting this event earlier, and it was well deserved.

For the record, this is an AMAZING initiative Tara and I really appreciate you taking the hip-hop discourse past the obvious strands to a new level of openness and maturity. This is arguably an unprecedented undertaking and hopefully gets the awareness and recognition it deserves.

Here are the particulars:

HIPHOP INDUSTRY HEAVYWEIGHT WAYNE BARROW ADDED TO THE F-YOU PROJECT LINE-UP

Event takes place June 5th, 2011, 3pm at Toronto’s City Hall. FREE EVENT.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

It is with great excitement that the F-YOU: Forgiveness Project team announces music industry powerhouse Wayne Barrow as the newest speaker added to the panel-based event.

Barrow is recognized as being the management force behind the careers of the Notorious B.I.G, Shyne and Nas, and most recently acclaimed hip-hop artist J. Cole. He also produced B.I.G’s biopic “Notorious”  which grossed over 75 million dollars. Hip-hop fans across the world consider Barrow, who works in partnership with his cousin Mark Pitts (R Kelly, Chris Brown, Usher), to easily be one of the core business men driving hip-hop culture today. He is currently the president of By-Storm Entertainment which includes a roster of #1 R&B artist Miguel, J.Cole and Toronto’s own Kardinal Offishall, among others.

Barrow is just as passionate about giving back as he is about his business – he is the Vice Chairman of The Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation which is a charitable organization established by Ms Voletta Wallace to provide educational tools; books, computers and tutorship to inner city youth. Joining the F-You panel in support of the message, he will be speaking on his experiences in both the industry and his personal life.

It is highly suggested that those wishing to attend this F-YOU event arrive early as this event will reach capacity. This is a completely free event.

About F-YOU:

A panel of six people, a mix of race, age and gender, speaking about a time in their lives they had to forgive either themselves or another. The Forgiveness Project is an inviting, tell-all event that aligns personal growth with self-improvement. This event has the potential to impact our community and young adults by way of real-life portrayals of hardships, and overcoming barriers that at one point seemed insurmountable. Hearing first-hand trials and tribulations from people just like us can open the door to inspiration and the motivation to do better and most importantly, feel better. Included themes on the panel are murder, sexual assault, depression, drug-use and self-forgiveness.

The panel includes:

Wayne Barrow – manager (J.Cole, the late Notorious B.I.G) – keynote speaker

Katrina Lopes – manager (Shawn Desman) – Exploring our notions of forgiveness

J “Bizz” Brown – Creator, “Hip Hop’s Not Dead, It Lives In The North” – speaking on attempted suicide

Kamplex – speaking on the murder of her two brothers

Priscilla – speaking on the aftermath of an abusive relationship

NEW MUSIC: Rich Kidd – Take It Slow (The Big Jacks Remix)

hyperadmin | Music | Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

Rich-Kidd-Smoke

Rich Kidd + Big Jacks + EPMD = The Big Jacks Remix of “Take It Slow”. Here’s the info:

Toronto rapper Rich Kidd has been making a lot of noise the last couple years and he’s one of my favourite new cats in our scene. While Rich is our homie I decided to do a lil something unofficially with one of his big singles from 2010. What was once only heard exclusively on our radio shows is now available to the public. If you’re a fan of classic hip hop i’m sure you can catch the reference when you listen to the track. Check it out! – Big Jacks

Btw…shouts to Ritchie for murking his performance at The Stylus Awards on Monday. It’s about to get really real for dude really soon. Shouts to me for intentionally using alliteration in that sentence.
