Valino’s Log:
On April 1st Manifesto and CBC partnered to bring Toronto the 2011 Hip Hop Summit held in the CBC Atrium. One of my favorite things to shoot is dancers. It’s simply put “the human form in motion to a rhythm” and to me the most honest expression of love for music. I always felt that these B-Boys/B-Girls were unsung heroes of the Hip Hop Culture. With B-Boys/B-Girls especially I feel that people can’t fully appreciate the full scope of what these artists do because it happens so fast. With this particular shoot I wanted to capture the small details that people probably wouldn’t pick up. I didn’t just want to capture the sheer athleticism but also the drama good and bad the takes place in a battle. Toronto is also blessed with such a diverse B-Boy/B-Girl community in terms of style from crew to crew dancer to dancer. I really wanted to make a B-Boy/B-Girl piece with a different feel while playing with various genres of music to evoke different emotions in these moments. This shoot was one of my first with my new Panasonic AF-100 camera. I was really just learning to use the camera and it’s features. This time I was focusing on shooting some dynamic variable frame rate footage. All this footage was shot at 60fps which I played with in post. A huge thank you to all TO crews thanks for all the inspiration over the years…
