The Keyz of Life project is shaping up to be real nice right now! Here comes the official 2nd single…”Real Ni**a Tears” featuring Ritchie and the legendary DJ Grouch. Produced (of course) by Burd & Keyz! RIP KEYZ.
The album is currently slated for an October release. If you missed the first single just peep the review on Okayplayer.com to catch up! Here’s more from Burd:
I had done this beat a couple days before Keyz passed away and I remember he loved it saying it sounded like some “Wu-Tang shit” but I knew the beat was missing something.
So after the passing of Keyz and the idea to start the project Keyz Of Life evolved, I invited the homie McCallaman over to add something to the beat in the spirit of what Keyz would do. He then began to lay down this sick bass line riff and strings section. Then I called Rich Kidd up cuz after listening to We On Some Rich Kidd Shit 3 and I heard the emotion and delivery he did on “Ridin’ Solo” (favorite songs of all-time) I knew he would be perfect to capture the mood I was in during that period in my life.
DJ Grouch was a late 4th quarter edition, as we felt since were already on this 96 Wu-Tang swag, we might as well do a scratch chorus which has kinda been becoming a little extinct in my opinion in the hip hop scene so he blessed it up with some dope cuts and we present to you…
This is a piece I first had the opportunity to view when I spoke to Motion about doing a piece for the Hip Hop Homage site. When I read the piece I put some simple graphics to it in order to post it. A short time later Motion contacted me inquiring about putting some visuals to the piece and we started to brainstorm what we’d like to see. I thought having ZIon in it would be important and Motion whole heartily agreed. And he was down to be apart of it. We had a great team shoot day. Shouts to my other camera man Robbie J, My son Origin who handled lights and anything else we asked. Motions hair was done by Safiyah’s House of Creations, And Locations, make up and styling was done by Sonilda Teaque. Shouts to Supa 83, Kolor Brown,Fresh Kilz, King RC who all had a hand in creating the soundscape. Today we learned that a legend the King of Style Kase2/Case2 has passed away and we wanted to drop this piece today in celebration of his Life and his impact on the graffiti movement. Also with Loving memory of Ramsay Jones who gets a special dedication on the wall. Motion and Myself would like to thank all the people that were involved in the project. And those writer’s who have given us impactful and beautiful art to inspire our works.
My bad, this was one that fell through the cracks over the last couple days..
Happy birthday and congrats to 6th Letter on The Smokers Club Tour placement.. Sooo many of these young dudes just below the radar coming out of the city with great potential.. Toronto would be an A&R’s wet dream… if A&R’s still existed, lol..
Toronto native and Hip-Hop recording artist, The 6th Letter is back with yet another addition to his weekly “Dope Ass Monday” series but this time decides to release it two days early in celebration of his 19th birthday.
