From The Weeknd’s performance – which only reminded me that this kid has pretty much broken all the rules with his meteoric rise; Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, J.Cole, the God-MC Nas; but most importantly the legendary Stevie Wonder’s appearance on stage with all that 2011 swag looked surreal, phenomenal and inspiring all at the same time (he will be featured on “Take Care”).

DOPE 3-day event for you to check out if you wanna get away from the Caribana madness for a bit this weekend. All the info is below as well as a short documentary about the initiative/community (if you missed it last month).

UforChange, the youth organization based in St. James Town is hosting a free 3 day event. Vivacity is a series of events featuring the talents of over 100 youth in performances of dance, music, film and drama and a special art gallery presentation. This 3 day showcase, is a chance for youth to present their work and ideas to the public is a cool hip way.

All events are FREE.

WORDS: Fundraising Event for Literature for Life

Shining a light on a worthy cause through spoken word, live music and a party dj’d by Juno Award winning artist K-OS

July 21, 2011, Toronto, ON– On July 28th, the Gingerich Group and Literature for Life in partnership with Kobo are hosting a fundraising event and BBQ at CLounge with special guest K-OS (Dj Set), in support of the charity’ efforts in the promotion of literacy among young mothers in marginalized communities.

Of the proceeds raised, 100% of the funds will be donated to Literature for Life and their reading circle programs around the city. Amazing talents, such as Juno award winning K-OS (Dj Set), and author/poet Dwayne Morgan promises an evening of entertainment and awareness about the Literature for Life mission.

Doors open at 8:30pm with a silent auction of highly anticipated items, including: Basketball signed by the Orlando Magic, 2 return tickets from West Jet, one year membership at Flirty Girl Fitness, shoes signed by Patrick Ewing, dinner at Buca Restaurant valued at $250, Spa Pampering, and much more.

The night will feature spoken word performances by poets Dwayne Morgan, Jwyze and Rootz Kizzy, and musical guests Andria Symaniw, Mike Celia and Don Cash followed with a party dj’d by Juno- Award winning artist, K-OS (DJ Set) followed by the Gillespie Brothers.

The Gingerich Group and Literature for Life with Kobo invite Toronto to join them in raising attention, celebrating and supporting the efforts of the teams making a different within our community. Auction items will be available to take home that night and are payable by cash or credit card.

So 88 Days member Brendan Philip & producer Lord Quest have collabo’d up as Wild Hearts for an upcoming project entitled “Purple Hearts” and are putting on a listening/release party that includes a silent auction/market from Wildmoon Jewelery. It’s all going down this Saturday at 61 Ossington Ave.
