Halifax by way of St. Lucia rapper Kayo Guevarra drops “Apologies For The Wait”, mixed by DJ Little Row. This is definitely an ambitious attempt to converge the sensibilities of hip-hop with the vibes of the Caribbean. Peep the kid’s story below:

Music is what feelings sound like; and every once in a while, you come across someone who’s feelings speak fluently. These people sometimes hail from the most unlikely places; like the Caribbean island of St. Lucia.
Kayo (Kayo Guevarra) is no exception to that rule. Born into a loving family of five, Filbert ‘Kayo’ Salton grew up in the relatively middle class neighborhood of Ciceron in St Lucia. However, the area was ironically surrounded by a more impoverished environment. Through that living environment, Kayo became aware of many different facets of life at an early age.
Kayo has been honing his talent from the age of 12. He started out just writing poetry, but as he matured, so did his innate ability to paint vivid pictures with words and portray his thoughts and emotions through them. Often considered a ‘golden child’ to music in the Caribbean, his style is a unique one, fusing a raspy, edgy yet melodic voice with intensely potent lyrics and a hint of Caribbean flavor.
Kayo is a rare commodity coming out of the Caribbean. Although hip hop is a fairly popular genre among the islands, it is not one that is frequently and successfully practiced by the people themselves. This made his journey much harder and all the more interesting.
After attaining a tremendous level of success in his homeland, St. Lucia, and expanding his reach to the other Caribbean islands, He felt like he needed to transcend his music to a broader audience.
He then packed his bags and headed to Canada to pursue his career as an artist, while also working towards his degree in Marketing. He is currently attending St. Mary’s University. He is quickly becoming a hometown hero and a prodigy in the city which he currently resides.

MIXTAPE: US (Jesse & Probs) – The Streets According 2 US (Hosted by DJ Whoo Kid)

hyperadmin | Mixtape | Friday, November 26th, 2010

You want that authentic Scarboro streets ish? Look no farther then Jesse and Probs (aka US) and their new mixtape The Streets According 2 US. Just skimmed through it and “Rain” and “Real Talk” are still my joints (shouts to MegaMan on the beats). Gotta love the Toronto talks on “Homage” too lol. Full tracklist under the hood! Here’s more info on the release/group courtesy of Silvex Media:

Wow ! They did it. The rap duo Us, Jesse an J. Probs, continue to up the ante for the city of Toronto by dropping a solid mixtape * The Streets According 2 Us *, hosted by DJ Whoo Kid of G Unit. All production on the mixtape was done by arguably the best beat maker in Toronto, MegaMan. A great blend of tempo coupled with heartfelt emotion, was captured throughout the entire CD.

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Jesse an J. Probs, and I can tell you this, by the hook or the crook these men will get whatever it is that their after. Their maturation as artists has grown over the last 3 years. A testament to countless hours in the studio, has obviously paid dividends. You can actually feel the pain in their music as evidenced on the tracks titled * Rain * & * This Ones for Y’all *. A vivid reality is certainly their keeper.

The group plan on shooting multiple videos for some of the chosen songs off the mixtape in the upcoming weeks. As well as release new music in rapid succession from here on out. I’ve been told by a reliable source that a signing to a notable company is presently in the works. As well as, signing on to open several big shows with some of the music industry’s biggest stars. Speaking of which, its safe to say these two will be among those in the sky. Good luck to y’all!
