Bigg Soxx lays down an exclusive freestyle for DJBooth.net over Gucci’s “Lemonade”.
The 169th entry in our DJBooth.net Freestyle Series comes courtesy of Saukrates, the Toronto native who brought us Wednesday (Remix) and the reader-acclaimed Hot Like Summer. On his brand new, exclusive Lemonade Stand freestyle, the Blacksmith/Universal rapper flows over a Bangladesh-produced instrumental originally featured on Gucci Mane‘s Lemonade. Saukrates is currently working with Canada’s own DJ Wrispect on a new mixtape series titled Bridging the Gap. In addition, he is set to appear as a supporting act on Redman‘s upcoming North American tour.
Drake does his “Closer” reinterpretation (this time with new lyrics) during a performance in San Francisco. That’s Goapele on the right, who joined him on her hometown stage to do the/her song, but whoever filmed this either got tired of holding the camera or doesn’t understand how great it would’ve been for all of us to see the whole thing too (smh, lol).
Promise is getting his leak game on with a joint called “HIStory” featuring Peter Katz and produced by Colin Munroe.
Just doing some spring cleaning and leaking a bunch of music before summer. Came across this joint I did years ago produced by Colin Munroe featuring my boy Peter Katz (Curve/Sony) who’s CD release is actually coming up!

Here’s the full video of K’naan’s chop-up with “Q’s” Jian Ghomeshi. They talk about pretty much everything under the sun – the success of Wavin’ Flag and why he changed the lyrics for the Coca-cola version, to the idea of a good producer being able to ‘speak different languages’ and whether he considers his music political. It’s almost a full hour so grab a beverage – a mauby or a malta (Carib of course) – and enjoy!
P.S. Wavin Flag’s been #1 in like TEN different countries.. Talk about having REAL bragging rights to put in a verse, lol!

Is it possible for anyone living in Toronto to not be aware of this song?
Already an OTA Live! future classic, this is a great example of how easily Noah “40” Shebib’s sound & Drizzy’s writing translate with raw R&B (Alicia Keys’ vocals are sooo perfect for this type of production). I hope they do more work in the genre. Vibe-wise this initially reminded me of “Making Love In The Rain” (Herb, Lisa & Janet) and “Funny How Time Flies” (Janet) – two classic urban mood music pieces – but now with the video out I definitely appreciate the message she chose to associate with the lyrics.
This is R&B being comfortable in it’s own skin and we need more of it.
Simply put: a beautiful piece of work with hometown beginnings and visuals to make it potentially more timeless.
Not exactly sure what to call this but the self-proclaimed rookies of the year have put together 8 tagged snippets of some new beats they’ve been working on and have zipped ’em together in one nice likkle package. This can either just be for your listening enjoyment or artists, yes these are for sale (as far as I know). Yo Burd, do I get a commission??? Anyways, here’s some more info:
Fresh off their trip to LA for the ASCAP – I Am Music Expo, production duo Burd & Keyz have been on a rampage as of late working with several artists in the city, corporate projects as well as artists in the U.S. With acclaimed work for artists like Famous (Goddess Girl: The Soundtrack), Luu Breeze (“Stick Up 4 Love Pt. 2“), Rochester, and more, the two have decided to drop a brief 8 track instrumental CD for your enjoyment.
After murdering his verse on one of my favorite joints (“One Stop”) off Tona‘s Direct Deposit album last year, Via Linez returns with a solo joint called “Chef Boyarvee”. MP3 + full DJ packs (MP3 & WAV versions) below!
