Dope!

HONEST MUSIC SIGNS DEAL WITH EMI LABEL SERVICES CANADA

(Toronto, ON) Introduce yourself to Honest Music. A record label birthed from The Remix Project is now officially a part of the EMI family. Boasting a fresh, diverse roster of young artists, the label will provide music that connects not necessarily along the lines of genre, but with the hearts and minds of listeners on an instinctual level.

As a social enterprise, Honest Music acts as an extension of The Remix Project (charity # 82247 1421 RR0001), the world class charity focusing on cultural and creative incubation. The Remix Project was created in order to help level the playing field for young people from disadvantaged, marginalized and underserved communities and now Honest Music takes it one step further by providing a platform for the world class talent that is surfacing from this program. The label emerges as a testament to the power of The Remix Project and its alumni which even includes Label Manager Adiel Papa.

Honest Music prides itself on being entrenched in the culture of today while participating in the creation of tomorrow. It’s with this in mind that the label is committed not only to releasing music, but fostering artist development from the moment of inspiration to point of sale. While the label plans to release various singles throughout 2011, its first full key release will be the compilation ‘Get Money, Make Change. vol. 1’  Scheduled for August 2012, this release is tied in with The Remix Project’s key annual fundraising event “Give Money, Make Change”.

“This relationship we’re forging with EMI Music Canada is literally a dream come true,” comments Gavin Sheppard, Executive Director of The Remix Project/Honest Music.  “For years now, The Remix Project has been serving as a launch pad for some of the most important and successful young urban talent in the city of Toronto. EMI opens the door to the missing piece of the equation, infrastructure to support that talent’s emergence on the worldwide scene. We hope that Honest Music can be an exciting example of social enterprise here in Canada.”

“The spirit of the team and artists at Honest Music greatly impressed and inspired us,” says Deane Cameron, President of EMI Music Canada.  “We see a unique opportunity for our staff to offer significant expertise and mentorship to this label, and to help them monetize the exceptional talent coming out of The Remix Project.  We can’t wait to get started!”

For further insight into the heart of Honest Music’s vision, check out this short film narrated by actor Jamie Hector (The Wire, Heroes) and directed by Maurico Ruiz of Madruk Ent. (Remix’s director in residence) – http://vimeo.com/26177561.  As the label continues to scout and develop talent, a series of viral videos entitled ‘Honest Moments’ will also soon be available.

NEWS: JD Era Signs To Raekwon's ICEH2O Record Label

hyperadmin | News | Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

Man, Era‘s probably been itching to get this news officially out lol. Congrats to him and the whole squad. REALLY hoping Rae has that business savvy to get things done and give Era the push he needs/deserves. Will be dope to see what the first move is! Here’s more info via HHC:

We’ve been offering a variety of Raekwon based coverage recently as he travelled the country performing new material and bigging up “all this talent” we have up north. Just this past 420 (April 20th) in Vancouver, Raekwon lit one up with HipHopCanada West Coast Editor, Amalia Judith, and spoke in detail exclusively to HipHopCanada of plans to open a Canadian branch to his new label, ICEH20. Here’s what he told us back in April:

“I’m startin’ an ice-h20 Canada record company out here, so all this talent out here that’s sunken in this situation where they not able to carry it across seas, across the world, across to America, I’m here to give them the opportunity. Right now I think I’ve got enough business savvy friends that’s going to come and help me allow others to get into this business. There’s a lot of talent here. It’s been too many years that we’re not able to hear the music like how ya’ll hearing us constantly. I wanna be able to hear ya’ll constantly the same way, and see new artists come and get on.”

The very first artist signed to the new Canadian branch is reported to be JD Era who has quickly become one of the hottest artists coming out up north. We caught up with Era to get his take on the new situation: “I’m excited to be working with Raekwon and the ICEH20 family. We’re looking forward to doing some big things for hip-hop in this counry.”

Update: Raekwon confirmed the reports by retweeting this story link and also writing his own message: “IT’S official, Welcome to the ballclub @JDERA!!!! Newest member to #iceh20records. Rt this crack!”

NEWS: D-Sisive Launches New Blog + New Song (Run With The Creeps)

hyperadmin | News | Thursday, May 26th, 2011

DPressPic

D pretty much says it all below. Lol @ “it’s rare that I put out new material”. Peep the new blog for the new joint.

In September, I will be releasing my new album, Run With The Creeps.

I adore studio footage. Listening to Brian Wilson conduct the Pet Sounds sessions was life changing to me. I get why people would feel It’s taking away from the magic of the finished product, kidnapping its mystery, but to me it makes it human.

I’ve decided to document every step of the creation process. From writing, to studio sessions, to photo/video shoots, to dealing with my label, Urbnet. This journey will be an open book. No detail will be left out.

Hooray!!

What’s a celebration without music?!

I know. It’s rare that I put out new material. That’s why I wanted to surprise you with this one!

The beat was stolen from my good pals, Sweatshop Union. Their song, Makeshift Kingdom (which this instrumental belongs to), is absolutely perfect. It’s off their newest masterpiece, The Bill Murray EP…which you all should go and purchase RIGHT NOW!

I had to write something to the beat. It was too good to ignore. And here it is…

Run With The Creeps (Makeshift Kingdom) … Produced by: Pigeon Hole. *mp3 attached.

Hope you likey.

The blog has been officially LAUNCHED! Time to start making the album.

Eternia‘s world domination continues! Check her Tumblr to get caught up!

“Eternia is one of the very few MCs who has managed to go mainstream but yet still keep it real for those that love the underground. Having been nominated for a JUNO Award alongside Drake for her album with MoSS titled “AT LAST”, her hard-hitting and gritty lyrics over sample-based boom-bap clearly illustrates why ‘My Favorite Rapper Wears a Skirt’”
