Good to see a Major stepping up to the plate and trying to create a more organic connection between themselves and the infinite indie artist market.

EMI MUSIC CANADA INTRODUCES THE MOBILE ARTIST (MOA) PLATFORM

Today at Canadian Music Week, EMI Music Canada officially launched a mobile music community, Mobile Artist (MOA).  This new interactive platform allows for the promotion and discovery of new music and emerging artists.  Both artists and fans can register at www.MOArtist.com ™ and then access the platform from their smart phone devices or by going online.  Independent artists will be able to create a free mobile site in minutes, post their digital content as well as send free SMS alerts to their fans.  The content and interaction with fans that these Canadian artists generate through MOA will be essential as they compete for fan votes.  The competition will take place over a period of nine months, with five finalists selected every three months – resulting in all Top 15 finalists being part of a special EMI digital compilation.  The overall winner of the competition will have their single released and serviced to radio by EMI Music Canada.   The competition is currently only open to Canadians – all rules and regulations are available on the website.

Full details after the jump!

Thanks to Zipstripe’s exceptional technology, MOA will be accessible on over 6000 smart phone models and allow indie acts to track their profile activity, giving them a real measurement of what actions brought direct impact to their overall rating.  Fraser Hill, Senior Director of A&R at EMI Music Canada and Barbara Sedun, Senior Vice President of EMI Music Publishing Canada will be checking out some of the artists on MOA and blogging regularly on the site thereby providing these unsigned artists with unprecedented industry access.

There are also benefits to fans who register on MOA such as: special access to their favourite bands, the ability to vote for them and interact with other fans; and an effortless way to discover talented new musicians.  There will even be a variety of contests available for fans in Canada, including the unique opportunity to win the chance for a work/education placement at EMI Music Publishing Canada – exact requirements and details for this can be found on the website.

“It will be exciting to see what talent will come our way through this new platform,” says Joel Urnom, Director of Mobile Marketing – EMI Music Canada.  “This is a great digital forum for artists and fans to interact on the go and ultimately vote for their favourite artist to have a single released via EMI Music Canada.  Working with Zipstripe’s technology and being able to launch at Canadian Music Week gives us great confidence we will find the next big Canadian talent.”

“EMI Music Publishing is thrilled to be involved with the MOA platform,” says Barbara Sedun, Senior Vice President of EMI Music Publishing Canada. “We are all waiting for the next great talent to come out of the digital realm and this is definitely an innovative and interactive way to make that happen.”

“We are very pleased to partner with EMI Music, one of the world’s most prestigious labels,” comments Anthony Addesi, Zipstripe President.  “Future superstars will be born as a result of our next-generation mobile artist community. Mobile is the new standard.”

“We see a lot of new music startup ideas at Canadian Music Week,” says Neill Dixon, President of Canadian Music Week. “The ones that succeed have empowering the artist at their core and EMI’s Mobile Artist (MOA) platform is no exception. We are excited to have them launch this new service at CMW and for the opportunities it presents to Canadian artists.”
