Back on my blogging sh*t on the Back On My Bullshit Tour with Busta Rhymes, Spliffstar, Belly, Peter Jackson and 9-0 Nickel. We’re in Winnipeg today and loving it. We took our off day and decided to drive to Winnipeg instead of hanging around in Saskatoon so we arrived here at 2 a.m. After checking in and dropping our luggage in the room, we tried to go back down to the car for a few things but couldn’t get an elevator. We were soon informed the elevators don’t run late at night, so you have to call the front desk so they can send an elevator to your floor. I’ve stayed in a million and one hotels in my time and have never heard such a thing, until ironically enough, we were informed the street lights in some western cities are turned off late at night as well. It seems late at night there just isn’t enough traffic to justify elevators that come when you call or street lights that tell you when to drive. If you don’t know, now you know.
Fast forward to the next day inside Urban Bakery, a fly clothing boutique in downtown Winnipeg… The spot looked straight out of Queen St. West – all white interior, glass display cases, cubby-holes and high end urban clothing. A few thousand dollars in clothes, hats and accessories later… the spot was certified. I got myself an old school button up hat reading “RAIDERS” in large white lettering, contrasted by small print above it reading “Panty.” winni

We hit sound check and had dinner then got set for what would be one of the most eventful shows of the tour. Midway through Busta’s set, a young lady tossed her panties on stage from the upper balcony. Spliffstar scooped it up and asked about the skid marks on them! (Meanwhile he’d just kicked them across the stage and applied said marks himself.) Busta took the panties, held them up for all to see and asked the young lady to show him she had no panties on. (It seems all of a sudden when Busta Rhymes is calling you out, you don’t quite feel as badass as you once did). She didn’t respond until Busta asked if they were hers. “Yes.” And does she have panties on right now? “Yes.” So she brought them from home to throw on stage? “Yes” – “AWWWWWWWWWWW,” yell Busta and Spliffstar almost in unison. Laughter raged on as Busta expressed his appreciation for the love especially since “It’s a recession.”
Spliff and Busta then pulled out my favorite trick. Busta starts rapping a song, Spliff turns his hand near Busta’s mic as if he’s turning down the dial on his mic level, Busta follows by gradually lowering his voice while rapping until he is silent, the beat lowers as well and everything gets quiet. After a few bars, Spliff begins to turn the dial again and Busta’s voice gradually works back into the mic and then suddenly erupts as the crowd goes wild. I have to admit, I was totally fooled and thought for sure it was the soundman turning down his mic level. But no, Busta actually has THAT much control over his voice and lyrics and does it all himself. It was a magical night once again.
Another Memorable night on the Back On My B.S. Tour. See me in ya city! TORONTO NEXT! I’m going home!
