1. Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years I will be 22 years old, therefore I see myself graduated from Ryerson University. I plan on going to school for Media Arts but then I want to take this 6-month course that will get me a teaching degree for Media Arts. That’ll be of good use for me when I get old and want to be out of the game. I can go teach at some high school at the age of 35-45 or so; maybe that’ll change… Also, I see my hustleGRL brand expanded across the nation. I will be working for more corporate companies and doing other things such as event planning, event hosting and PR work. Until then, I’m going to focus on my graphic design and expand my Photoshop and Illustrator skills. I will definitely keep my eyes open for various opportunities.
2.What do you do in your spare time?
I barely get spare time but since I still am a high school student, I do the after-school activities such as basketball and volleyball. I am more of a basketball person though (MVP 3 years in a row baby). God didn’t give me my 5’10” figure for no reason. When I’m at home, I play video games with my 4 brothers – 3 older, 1 younger – and if I’m on the computer and not working, I visit websites such as Nah Right, Twitter (follow me! @hustleGRL), Fassbook, MySpace/Gmail (responding to fan mail), etc. If I’m roaming the streets of Toronto, I hit up the Queen/Spadina area to say hi to my peoples at Livestock, Ransom and CiRCA. Then I might go down Queen Street to The Remix Project and kick it there. That’s pretty much it…
3.What’s the best advice anybody has ever given to you?
My mentor Bryan Espiritu once told me to never sell myself short. I started young in the game and people would try to take advantage of me because I was 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 but I barely let it happen. I’ve been in a couple situations where I unfortunately was taken advantage of aka not paid for my work. Ever since, it’s always been 50% upfront or I’m not doing anything for you. Adios.
4. Describe what a perfect day would be like for you?
A perfect day would consist of me sleeping in until about 11am – I love sleep. I would like for it to be a hot, summer day with a nice breeze blowing in from Ontario Lake. I’d then shower, brush my teeth, do my hair, get dressed and head to Open Avenue Kitchen on Camden Street for their all day homemade breakfast special. Sausages, scrambled eggs, and home fries with orange juice on the side usually do it for me. There’s just something about their breakfast that’s so tasty. Maybe it’s just ‘cause they’re Italian, ha! After breakfast, I hit up my peoples and we can hit up the movies, shop or just kick it at the crib. I love to surround myself with great people that I love and care about. When I’m done with being regular me, I go home and work on various projects for several clients, blog, reply to emails, etc. I would do all of that until about 3-4am and call it a night.
5. What are some brands that you wear?
Currently: Ransom, Livestock, Ideall Clothing, Gourmet/NFN, Converse, Nike, American Apparel, and H&M.
6. Do you think what you wear effects your confidence?
Yes and no. Before your clothing affects your confidence, you got to be comfortable in your own skin. I dress according to my mood but, if I’m wearing heels that make me stand at 6 feet tall with some skinny jeans and an Ideall LLadies shirt, I feel like I’m on top of the world because I am probably one of the tallest individuals in the room :).
