hyperadmin | Video | Friday, July 15th, 2011

J Wyze drops official and fitting viz for his latest joint, “Sugar Water”. Off his upcoming album Proverbs and Herbs. Produced by his CAT fam, Kolor Brown and directed by his CAT fam, Eklipz. Here’s more from the director:

“When I first heard it automatically I was drawn in and had visuals resonate immediately so it was fitting I was called on to do the video. Shot in Hamilton and Toronto in black & white it was a very laid back and relaxed way of shooting and it allowed for some new techniques for my style. Be on the look out for Proverbs and Herbs I’ve heard it’s development and y’all are in for some amazing music.”

Vocoder MURKS Autotune any day of the week. Too sick. No pun intended.

I was up mighty late messing with some electric guitar sounds in search of the most authentic one. During this process, I kept hearing reverb’d bells in my head. lol So I laid them down and built my drums around those ideas.

Now that my soul was lost somewhere in 1986, I decided to add a bit of Vocoder to give it that throwback feel. Had a lot of fun with this one. Enjoy!

INTERVIEW: The Airplane Boys w/ TheSource.com

hyperadmin | Interviews | Friday, July 15th, 2011

Airplane-Boys---Source

The Airplane Boys continue building their buzz with a lil’ help from TheSource.com.

TheSource.com caught up with Toronto natives The Airplane Boys. Take a look at the who, what, and where of the life and times of The Airplane Boys.

Question: How did you come up with the name Airplane Boys and what does it mean?

Bon Voyage: Airplane Boys came about two years go, we use to be called rock steady, we were experimenting and growing at the time and we needed a name that kind of represented change and moving forward. We were joking around one day talking about flying and we said something about airplane boys and we were like okay yeah, that’s cool. Also my father (Bon Voyage) was a pilot and Beck Motely’s father was an aeronautical engineer, so it was also a way to show homage to them. We are in a sense living out their dreams, trying to fly and leap.

Question: Toronto is on one right now, with so many artist, Justin Bieber, Melanie Fiona, and Drake, how does it feel to see your city blow up like that? What is the music scene in Canada?

Beck Motely: It’s the water in Toronto, people in the states have a lot more opportunity out there especially in the music world.  In Toronto its like a jar you have to try and climb out of it.  Drake opened the door for us. There is pros and cons to Toronto, if you’re really that good you’ll stand out on your own. To stand out in the States coming from where we come from, can happen much quicker but the Toronto market is really saturated.

Bon Voyage: But we are really blessed to becoming out now, because of the Internet when things blow they will really blow.

Beck Motely: I don’t know if Bon and me are really in tune with things musically or what, but it seems there is this creative energy kicking around the world right now. Because there is a lot going on in Toronto that people don’t even know about, like a grenade that imploded or something.

In this video, I’m gonna take you into what a typical studio session looks like when we build a track from scratch. We all know what happens when you mix liquor together; it becomes more lethal. Well, this is what happens when you mix some HENNESSY + SMOKE + RICH KIDD PRODUCTION + SOME HARD RHYMES courtesy of TONA together.
