Okay, things at footnotes* are moving well in 20T0, so I thought I’d throw in a little intermission this week to bring you a little ol skool flavour. We’ve been enjoying an increasing number of new readers daily at blog.farbeyond.ca and we’re very happy for that. Makes me think it’s time for a twist. I know I have mentioned this many times before, but back in the day I used to write a few articles for some different publications under various names between the years of 2003 – 2007 . To this day a couple of those pieces have helped shape the way the urban landscape in Canada is currently viewed. But you know, I never needed the millions of dollars and G4’s that would have come with the recognition , I’m just happy about where we are now . Feel free to count this as my ‘What The Dog Saw’ . This little ditty was written in the Spring of 2006 , right around the time I first felt the itch to get back into the business. I had just sold my share of SafeBridge and spent the next 3 months figuring out what to do. Below is the results of the research that I conducted regarding what I felt was the staleness in the industry . After writing this, I knew the time was not right for me to get back in. Lastly, I made a decision NOT to alter anything in this piece, so my style may not be as, shall we say, strong, as maybe you’ve come to enjoy, so please bare that in mind. Very important to note that the footnotes added are BRAND NEW, so we’re mixing it up a little bit, but I think you’ll have more fun this way. Anywho, nuff yapping… dig in and enjoy.
I know, I know but believe me, the pic makes sense when you read the piece (lol!)… Actually reading any of these pieces at www.farbeyond.ca is also recommended to get the full pop-up experience.

Some of T.O.’s (and surrounding areas) finest are getting together tomorrow night for a Haiti fundraiser. The line-up looks SICK and definitely worth the $10 cover (especially considering all proceeds are going to the Red Cross for Haiti relief). Here’s the full press release:
Top Canadian Indie Label Brings Together Canada’s Best Urban Artists for Haiti Relief
CP Records, the top independent label releasing Canadian artists on the Billboard 2009 Year-End Canadian Hot 100, hosts benefit event for the Haiti relief by the Canadian Red Cross.
The Help Haiti Now star-studded line-up includes performances by Belly, Saukrates, Danny Fernandes, Karl Wolf, Carl Henry, Choclair, Dru, Ivana Santilli, P Reign, DY, Lola, Jahvon, Jordan Croucher, Kim Davis, Peter Jackson, Shaun Boothe and Ill Kidz.
Toronto, February 4, 2010, CP Records, home to Juno winners Belly and Ivana Santilli, the 2009 MMVA’s most nominated artist Danny Fernandes and Massari’s gold-selling debut album, are hosting the large benefit event at Toronto’s Circa Nightclub with all proceeds being donated to the Canadian Red Cross. CP Records founded by CEO, Tony Sal knows all to well what it is like to live in a nation that is struck by devastation. Hailing from Lebanon and having tragically lost his own family, Tony Sal was compelled to make a difference along with the many other Canadians who have been moved by Haiti’s misfortune. CP Records announced their intent to organize a benefit event to the Canadian Music industry days after the Haiti earthquake and the response was overwhelming.
CP records A&R executive and recording artist Belly shared the same sentiments as Tony Sal, having also bared witness to human suffering as a young child in Palestine. “We’ve just been so moved by the events in Haiti, as have all the performers we contacted and all of Canada for that matter, that we really wanted to do our part to help.” Belly remarked. “Help Haiti Now is going to be a great night of music, special performances and an opportunity for people to get together and show their support.”
Thursday night’s event begins at 10 PM with performances to follow at 12 AM. Artists and CP Records executives will be available for interview prior to and at the event.
