June 29^th, 2010 – Toronto, ON – On Friday, July 23^rd, Derek “Drex” Jancar will be hosting an exclusive listening party for his second solo album, City-to-City. Fifty per cent of all proceeds from the event, album and merchandise sales will go toward completing the construction of the media arts centre in Rio de Janeiro.

Drex is the co-founder of Toronto’s inner-city youth arts program, The Remix Project, where program leaders and mentors foster the creativity of young people through recording arts, creative arts, and the art of business streams. Drex is also a role model for youth within the recording arts program as a talented and successful artist himself.

As a member of The Rawluck Movement, Drex moved on to release his first solo project, Charlie Hustle, in 2006. Years into his hip-hop career, Drex is known to be a spokesman for the local and international community through “honest music” that addresses issues many people tend to overlook. It is fitting that he has chosen to merge his work with The Remix Project, Ponte BR, and Schools Without Borders in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Having helped established a program similar to The Remix Project during his time in Rio de Janeiro, Drex is using his gift to benefit the program he has been so intimately involved with.

“It was a privilege to work with the youth in Rio, and I want to support the people who support me, this isn’t about saving anyone, this is about a mutual respect and love for each other and our art forms”, says Drex.

Continuously working to inspire youth with whom he relates so well to, the City-to-City album release party is simply another way in which Drex plans to raise awareness to world issues and common struggle while providing sustenance to Rio de Janeiro’s youth program.
