MIXTAPE: Mezziah – Up In The Air

hyperadmin | Mixtape | Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

New tape from Mezziah! Although, something’s telling me this came out already. Can’t remember but I searched the site and it didn’t come up, so here you go. Also, peep under the hood for a quick interview he did with Tara Muldoon (as well as full tracklist)!

Toronto-based rapper Mezziah has been dabbling with the music industry game for a minute. Originally from the acclaimed hip-hop collective Empire and a seasoned solo artist, Mezziah is back with a new project “Up In The Air”. Inspired by the birth of his baby girl this past month, he’s focused on taking his career to a whole new level. In addition to his solo hustle, he represents the S.A.R.S movement hard – having toured Canada and selling 5,000 copies of the series to date – he’s currently featured on the 7th edition.

Tara: You’ve been heavy on the mixtape game, why have mixtapes appealed to you over doing albums?
Ziah: At the time, I wasn’t ready to release an album. Early in my career I planned on working on a mixtape trilogy to create a big enough buzz for me to drop a full length album. I’ve released over four solo mixtapes that have done well , so I cant complain. In all honesty, I love the freedom you have with mixtapes. No deadline, No restrictions, No nothin’ (laughs)! But in the long run, a Ziah album is needed… just making sure its the right time.

Tara: You have a track “Off The Wall” about to drop with Grammy nominated Boi-1da, break that down for me.
Ziah: We’ve had this record locked up for almost 3 years now. I knew it was big the day we recorded it. 1da been asking me when I was gonna release it but I kept telling him it wasn’t the right time. But I think its TIME. The record has a good vibe to it. We currently brainstorming on some video ideas to bring it to life.

Tara: You also saw success with Empire’s Get It album – is there more pressure for you as a solo artist?
Ziah: Oh for sure!  I want to feel the pressure as a solo artist though. I want that challenge… that drive within me to keep pushing for something better of myself. The only reason why there’s more pressure is because I’m not on top yet…

Tara:  What’s one of your own lyrics you feel defines you?
Ziah: I could think of a few, but the “WHO AM I” record off “THE PEN & THE PAD 1.0” seems to stand out the most. It’s one of those records you can connect with emotionally, physically, and mentally. I also feel that maybe one listener could relate to the lyrics of that specific record “Some could relate to being raised by a single parent/ father figure transparent …..” till this day, it still reminds me where I came from.

Tara: Congrats on the birth of your daughter! How has being a father changed who you are as an artist?
Ziah: It has changed dramatically! I have mouth’s to feed so it puts an extra “humph” in my step to work extra hard.

Tara: Dope. And where can we find your free download?
Ziah: You can find the “UP IN THE AIR” MIXTAPE, mixed by DJ Christylz on my official website www.mezziah.ca and make sure you grab a copy of the new SARS 7 mixtape: Contagious @ www.thesarsnetwork.com. Oh yea and request “SYSTEM ON BUMP” on MuchMusic, MuchVibe & MuchRapCity
