Gotta give it up to X man. This was definitely one of the best OTA Talk shows we’ve had thus far. Like Ty said at the end of the interview, X is one of the reasons to feel proud about Toronto’s contribution to hip-hop/R&B so if you didn’t know here’s the full show broken down into 6 parts. We get to know the origins of Director X. Where’s he from? What’s his background? We touch on X’s beginnings as a visual and spoken word artist and get to know how he first transitioned into becoming a video director.

In this clip we take it back to X’s first video “What It Takes” by Choclair and talk about X’s experience working with Hype Williams in NYC. We also touch on some of X’s most important videos like “Northern Touch”, “Gimme The Light” and “Ol’ Time Killin'”.

We touch on X’s official name change to ‘Director X’ and he breaks down the relationship between the artist and the director on set. X also breaks down the necessary team needed to puttogether a video and we talk briefly about the new Internet age and how it’s effecting videoproduction and the game as a whole.

X talks about Drake’s success and gives advice to the new crop of direcotrs out there. We also talk about one of X’s most memorable videos, Usher’s “U Don’t Have To Call”, and he breaks down the idea of there being a spirit involved when creating art.

In this clip we talk about video directors trying to cross over to direct feature films. X also breaks down the freedom directors have when doing music videos as opposed to other forms of film making. We also talk about X’s opportunity to work with Aaliyah and get to know some of his current favorite directors as well as his favorite self-directed videos.

What is Director X’s favorite video of all time? And Ty tweaks his famous pearly white gates question to cater to video directors. Meanwhile, X goes on a Toronto-tangent and breaks down the origins of Jay-Z’s “Big Pimpin'” video. We end things off with some very wise words from Director X.
