NEW VIDEO: Meek & Young Greezy (Freestyle) (Directed by Mobb Media)
Directed by Mobb Media.
New visuals from Meek & Young Greezy.
Not a lot of info on these two kids, it just came in our inbox with a link; but it definitely inspired a..
SIDEBAR:
Honestly man, I post this one with mixed feelings.
On one side these two kids – Meek & Young Greezy – are spitting tighter and with more passion and heart than seasoned rappers twice their age. And their video, although a very simple one-shot, is more engaging than most ‘big budget’ videos.
With that being said, I feel like the lines of entertainment/reality, free individual will/social responsibility are blurred in this video.
Walk with me.
If the passion and heart they’re emoting as young rap artists is coming from real life experience on the streets – then this goes from being a dope, entertaining music video by two promising young artists on the come up, to becoming the realest PSA for at-risk street youth I’ve ever seen.
And if these kids really are spitting from first hand experience on this type of subject matter, it definitely makes me question whether presenting this simply as ‘good ole hip-hop entertainment’ isn’t a bit irresponsible (I’m asking, not stating).
I guess it could be considered a complete contradiction for me to use the moral card in this case when most ‘authentic’ street rap we post constitutes the same bunch of conflicting issues, but f*ck man 15/16 is waay too young a demo for me to act like the principle characters involved are old enough to be left to their own means of survival.
I’m also aware that this could just be a bunch of regular kids from stable households emulating what they see in the media and around them – which would make this a great piece of street hip-hop stagecraft.
But if what is being portrayed here is actually the case then I’ll say to the people involved in this project (I’m assuming there’s some kind of older/adult supervision involved) – hopefully y’all are steering these kids in a direction intended to take the streets away from their realm of influence.
There’s no such thing as being 16 and firm in a belief that life can’t get any better.
Either way, you be your own judge.
I agree with everything said but i’ve known Meek for years and i can say from first hand experience the stuff he raps about involves what he does in real life. that’s also where the passion and heart comes in, he’s rapping to make it somewhere and since the streets is what he’s mostly engaged in that’s mostly what he raps about.

This is whats wrong. Wack artists rapping about the streets no one cares about. City on my back – step your game up and stop posting bullshit.

Nah, this is what’s wrong: You creating a user profile and email account specifically to post negative criticism. That’s really wack.. Wack.
You’re either (a) in the industry and afraid your opinion will hurt you, which is true if you continue to keep it so simplistic or (b) aren’t understanding that we WANT your opinion – just be more constructive. Or else how’re the artists gonna get better, or know when they’re on the right track?
And Shevy, you’re simply reiterating my thoughts.. The question I raised was whether, based on their ages, we should be simply viewing this video as entertainment when in the process of doing that we’re rejecting the real life implications of what they’re saying (?)
I don’t know whether these kids necessarily need ‘saving’; I’m just not gonna act like this video couldn’t be an example of the very complicated/blurred line between what we allow to pass for harmless entertainment, and what could be an authentic window into the life of kids that deserve better. The same kids we’ll lament on in ‘mature’, ‘adult’, ‘concerned’ contexts that are ironically informed by these very videos we apathetically consume as disposable hip-hop.
The blurred lines are where we need the realest talk.
