3 Dollas and 6 Dimes

The other day, I was at the Manifesto offices, taking a break from work when I heard some beautiful sounds coming out of the studio.  As I walked by, I heard a female voice say ‘Women are the weaker race’..I just had to turn back…

Manifesto Studio for Rent

So first off, shameless plug:  The Manifesto Studio is a really a dope spot to rent out for video shoots, events, art shows whatever.  The rates are reasonable too.  I’ve used it.  Love it. Contact meghan@themanifesto.ca.

Back to rehearsal….

Turns out It ‘s my HOMEGIRL Natasha Daniel and her group Kahaniya were the people rehearsing for in the studio this weekend.  So these ladies are going to be performing a show in association with Aluna Theatre on Saturday July 25th at the Factory Theatre, 125 Bathurst at 4 and 6pm.  The show touches on the coming to age of women from Jamaica, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, St. Vincent, Eritrea, Guyana, Colombia and Canada.  The stories are told by the same form that plays a part in the development of the experiences these women have faced.

Womyn in Hip Hop

Hip hop has not only had an impact on the lifestyles and development of many individuals, it has become a badge, an identity and sometimes an oppressive force.  Womyn’s Role in hip hop is a the manifestation of how so many female heads feel about the various ideals that can be placed on us, but also how hip hop made us. I don’t want to get too heavy on this, and really it’s a dialogue not everyone gets, but an important one to be had.  If you’re down to relate, check this out on Saturday:
