The Real Frequency Presents The New North
Toronto’s Premier Hip Hop Radio Show Releases New Music

(Toronto, Tuesday July 28th, 2009) – Seeking to fill a void in the music industry and show their commitment to artists, Toronto’s premier hip hop radio show, The Real Frequency announces the release of their project, The New North. A year in the making, the project which consists of two new singles, is distributed through Hip Hop Canada (HHC Digital) and E1 (formerly known as Koch Canada) as of today, and is also available on iTunes.

The Real Frequency started The New North as a quarterly, month long segment to promote the endlessly growing roster of local talent in the GTA. They based the idea on a single insight: Radio does not play an active enough role in promoting local artists beyond the regular banter of release parties and production credits. The idea was simple: each week, a different artist would sit in for the entire 2 hour duration of the show, and talk music, life, shoes, food and anything else that interests them beyond the actual release date of their LP – in other words, have a real conversation.

Since it’s inception, The New North has added Tona, Drake, JD Era, Famous, Theology 3, Grimace Love, Point Blank, Wio-K, Empire, Rochester, MoSS, Promise, Shad, Tone Mason, Luu Breeze, Frankie Payne, Mayhem Morearty, Boi 1-Da, King Reign, Rich Kidd, Richie Sosa and Shaun Boothe to its growing list of participants.

So it was only logical to evolve the concept.

What if each of the 4 artists chosen to participate in The New North wrote and recorded a song together? Some might call it an experiment. Others may call it a risk. The Real Frequency calls it “Heateration 101” and “Represent”. ‘Heateration 101’ features four verses of exactly that from Grimace Love, Theology 3, Shad and Famous over a Tone Mason produced single. ‘Represent’ features King Reign, Shaun Boothe, Richie Sosa and Rich Kidd over original production from Rich Kidd himself. Both tracks help to undoubtedly showcase the depth and talent of the continually growing scene in Toronto.

A staple of hip hop in Toronto for over 16 years, The Real Frequency show has been proudly endorsing artists from the very beginning. Widely recognized and internationally respected, DJs Musiklee Inzane and P-Plus, alongside host Arcee, have a knowledge and passion for hip hop that is both enviable and essential, given the music industry’s ever-changing climate. The Real Frequency airs Monday nights 11PM to 1AM on the New FLOW 93.5FM (www.flow935.com).
