Moni in the Middle of…Secrets of a Blackboy!! ONLY 3 shows LEFT!!!
Toronto is coming with some heat right now!! And its not just music either… For the past few weeks, and for the next few weeks, film and theatre is on the come up too. Secrets of a Blackboy sets the benchmark of relevant theatre in the city and with only 3 shows left, you MUST SEE this incredible play!
Little brother or not, Darren Anthony holds his own. An amazing actor in the company of other amazing actors, Darren is also known in the community through his work in the youth sector and activist networks. Others featured in this play are: Shomari Downer, Eli Goree, Samson Brown and Al St. Louis, each giving standout performances. They all brought it!! I was totally blown away by their talent. It would not be surprising if you see these guys on even bigger stages, hopefully more in Canada, but most definitely also in the States and Internationally.
I saw the Wednesday night show, It was pretty dope. Not only is the show totally captivating, but the vibe of attendees is just right. You really feel like you are in the company of family, especially when big sister addresses the crowd. Trey Anthony was hilarious and I had the best seats to enjoy the show for a reasonable price considering how well put together this play is. From music to sound, lighting and art, these guys deliver a really heartfelt, story or should I say, stories. They totally repped Regent, what up Point Blank!! And most important of all, this play tells a story of so many, crossing over gender-lines and looking at the experience of a Black Man or anyone that considers themselves to fit the same realities. This play also gives you perspective of communities that are being re-accommodated as per gentrification and life. All and all, Secrets is really funny, clever and beautifully executed.
